NUANCE DRIVES DEVELOPMENT OF VOICE WEB ASP MARKET
Companies Align With Nuance to Streamline Delivery of Standards-Based Applications on the Voice Web

MENLO PARK, Calif., Aug. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Nuance (Nasdaq: NUAN), the leader in voice interface software, today extended its Voice Web initiative with the introduction of the Voice Web ASP Program. The program's comprehensive offering of Nuance products and services is designed to help leading application service providers (ASPs) host and deliver voice-enabled applications of all types. More than 20 companies have joined the program, including BeVocal, Bitmo, Covigo, Curious Networks, eVoice, General Magic, Interactive Telesis, IntoVoice, Mitercom, Mobilee, SkyFlow, SpeechHost, Syntellect, TELUS, UCallNet, ViaFone, VocalPoint, Voci, Voice Access Technology, Webley Systems, Webversant and Zimba. These companies will use Nuance software to assist enterprises and e-businesses in building and running voice sites and voice portals that will be accessible to the more than 1.5 billion telephones users worldwide.

The Voice Web ASP Program builds on the success of the Voice Web Portal Program launched earlier this year. It targets application service providers, service bureaus, and Web hosting companies seeking a stake in the emerging Voice Web market. ASPs are playing an important role in the evolution of the Voice Web because they eliminate the need for enterprises and e-businesses to build out the telephony infrastructures necessary for delivering voice-driven content and commerce applications, thereby streamlining the process and reducing costs.

"Voice ASPs are a necessity for businesses that want to introduce voice sites or voice portal services quickly, without making a huge capital investment in telephony infrastructure," said Dan Miller, senior vice president, Advisory Services, at The Kelsey Group. "Nuance's Voice Web ASP Program positions the company well to support the new breed of ASPs that are driving the speedy migration of applications to the Voice Web."

Benefits to Voice Web ASP Program members include bundled pricing for software licenses of Nuance's core speech recognition software, business development and lead referrals, technical support, training and education, and co-marketing programs. Members of the Voice Web ASP program can also establish Voice Site Staging Centers -- using Nuance's innovative Voyager(TM) voice browser -- to provide developers with an interactive testing environment for VoiceXML- and SpeechObjects(TM)-based applications.
