CHICAGO - February 22, 2000 - /PRNewswire/ -- Publicly launched today, Curious Networks
will be the first to provide highly personalized Internet information and
services by any means and at any time. Users will have total freedom to access
information when they want it, how they want it, and where they want it. This
includes access through connected PCs, Internet-enabled mobile phones, Personal
Digital Assistants (PDAs), other emerging Internet appliances, or even any
standard phone, by the most natural means of communication possible -- voice. |
The Curious Networks solution was designed from the ground-up to support all
major Internet access channels including new channels, as they emerge. The
solution integrates the latest advances in Web, speech and mobile technologies.
Curious Networks is leveraging and building upon open industry standards such as
XML, WAP and VoiceXML to help make Internet information and services available
literally through any device. |
Curious Networks has also announced a strategic partnership with Nuance, the
leader in voice interface software, whereby the company will join the Nuance's
Voice Web Portal Program and utilize its industry-leading speech technologies as
part of Curious Network's service offerings. According to Ronald Croen,
President and CEO of Nuance, "Curious Networks appears to be on to something
big. Opening the Internet to anyone, whether they use a PC, a common telephone,
or a yet to be defined new Internet appliance, holds great appeal to many
people. Nuance is pleased that Curious Networks has chosen our groundbreaking
voice interface software to be a part of their solution." |

Curious Networks was conceived in July 1999 by Internet visionaries David
Cutler and Jeffrey Palmer, both former executives from Andersen Consulting, the
most prestigious information technology consulting organization in the world.
Based in a converted landmark department store in downtown Chicago, Curious
Networks has already assembled a world-class team. The team has substantial
experience in large systems implementation, Web architecture, customer-oriented
Web services and user interface design. |

The company has received funding from recognized leaders in eCommerce, telecommunications, intellectual property protection, and finance. Patrick J. Pollard, who led the initial funding round said, ''Curious Networks has a stellar, proven management team with the right vision at the right time. We're excited to be involved with Curious Networks and are confident in the team's unique ability to bring groundbreaking new communication services to the market.'' |
According to David Cutler, the founder and CEO of Curious Networks, ``For the
first time users will be able to choose the method of communication and
interaction that's best for them at any given point in time. A browser on a PC
is great in some cases, Internet-enabled mobile devices may be the way to go in
other situations, but sometimes just picking up the nearest phone makes the most
sense. Curious Networks is going to lead the way in bringing the Web to
everyone.'' |
