CURIOUS NETWORKS INTRODUCES CONTINUUM™ |
|
 |
Mobile Development Platform Extends the Reach of Enterprise Systems |

 |
CHICAGO - January 29, 2001 -
Curious Networks today raises the bar on mobile application
development with the introduction of Continuum™, the first
multi-channel presentation server that unleashes the power of
MAXML™ (Multi-channel Access XML) and enables companies to
build and deliver customized applications across the widest
range of devices-without the time and costs associated with
coding for each appliance. |

Before Continuum, a company's IT team had to painstakingly code an application for each device-a time consuming process that required ramping up on various ever-changing standards. Because Curious Networks' MAXML fully supports all industry standards, including HTML, XHTML, XML, WAP (HDML and WML), Palm PQAs and VoiceXML, developers no longer need to code for each device. They simply write in MAXML once and the application is instantly accessible on the Continuum platform across all devices, from PCs and standard and cell phones (via voice recognition) to personal digital assistants, WAP phones, text pagers, and interactive TV-regardless of the varying code standards. |

"MAXML is clearly our key differentiator in the multi-channel access market. The only language designed specifically for supporting multiple devices, MAXML enables companies to create, deploy and maintain customized user experiences across all current and emerging devices," said David Cutler, co-founder and CEO of Curious Networks. "Templates and style sheets provided by traditional solutions do not provide the scalability and breadth customers demand." |

|
 |
The introduction of Continuum comes at a time when more companies seek to extend eCommerce to new channels and to support mobile employees, partners and customers. Continuum, a stand-alone packaged software solution designed for enterprise-wide deployment, meets that need by seamlessly integrating into backend systems and leveraging existing IT applications. This is especially important now as companies move quickly to allow mobile access to CRM, sales force automation and ERP systems. |

Unlike traditional markup languages based on device-specific presentation, Continuum's MAXML is founded on human computer interaction models, which focus on how users interact with information presented to them. Developers simply use MAXML to define the interactions an application requires and Continuum provides the ideal presentation for each specific device. For example, on a standard phone users would receive voice commands and on a text pager they would be presented with a text list-different interactions with the same application. This unique approach enables companies to provide customers, partners, and employees the best possible user experience on the widest range of devices. |

"MAXML is a development language I want to have in my arsenal. It allows developers to add multiple devices to applications without the fear of exceeding budgets, which often happens when additional time is taken to code more than one device," said Meadowlark Bradsher, a Chicago-based independent developer, who has tested MAXML. |

Paul Dain, director of technology services for DCG Chicago agrees. "MAXML is easier to learn than JAVA and it does more. It simplifies multi-channel deployment," Dain said. "I have used a number of different products that try to do the same thing and this has been the easiest one to use so far." |

Companies can preview a scaled-down version of Continuum at Curious Networks' online development site, Workshop, workshop.curiousnetworks.com. Continuum currently supports the Web, Internet-enabled phones, PDAs, two-way pagers, and voice recognition, as well as additional channels, such as interactive television and telematics as they become available. |
